London Borough of Southwark

Situated south of the river Thames, Southwark is one of the 33 London Boroughs. In recent years, the north of the borough has been transformed into an important cultural and commercial centre – with well known sites such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. In contrast, the centre of the borough has a high concentration of public sector housing, and is home to some of the most deprived communities in the UK. The picture changes again in the south of the borough which is mostly affluent and suburban in character.

Sustainability is a key theme running through Southwark’s Community Strategy. The Council also has a corporate priority to make it a more sustainable organisation. With an annual spend of around £600 million on goods, services and works, procurement has a key role in achieving the Council’s sustainability objectives.
