Lewisham is one of the London Boroughs located in the south east with a population of approximately 246,200.
The London Borough of Lewisham’s Environmental Policy Statement details our commitment to ‘ensuring its activities are designed to reduce adverse impacts on the environment and to use resources increasingly efficiently’. This is being achieved by use of the Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
As a result of our good practice on Sustainable Energy, Lewisham was recently awarded Beacon Status for Sustainable Energy for 2005-2006. The Beacon Status programme aims to identify local authorities that are taking a successful and proactive approach to sustainable energy issues. Beacon’s then commit to working with other local authorities to share their experience and assist them in moving forward on sustainable energy issues.
Through our work on the LEAP project and other EU funded projects we are endeavouring to share our experience and knowledge, whilst learning from others in working towards providing services to our community in a more sustainable manner.
